Heavy Equipment Training School Ontario - HEO or the heavy equipment operator courses would provide you with the skills and knowledge required so as to enter the workforce as an entry level heavy equipment operator. In this 12 week course together with a practicum, you would focus on jobsite basics including: safety, health and environmental awareness and training, machinery operation and maintenance, and application of earth moving methods in hands-on situations.
Operator training would help individuals work with their chosen heavy equipment such as a loader, a compactor, a grader, an excavator and a dozer. The needed skills that an operator will require to work with heavy machinery includes: excellent oral communication skills, excellent problem solving skills, excellent spatial ability and good vision, physical stamina and strength, the ability to work well with others in a team or alone and good manual dexterity along with good eye-hand coordination.
Some technical skills are also essential. These are having a being able to operate equipment and power tools, general mechanical ability, understanding of safe working practices, the ability to follow grade plans, technical specifications and read directions, the ability to make mathematical calculations and basic measurements, and the ability to perform basic maintenance and mechanical repairs.
